Police station attacked in Turkey

04 May 2016 [12:15] - TODAY.AZ

A police station has been attacked in Turkey's south-eastern province of Mardin, Turkish newspaper Milliyet reported May 4.

One policeman was killed and ten were injured in the attack.

Initial reports suggest that the attackers are the members of the Kurdistan Workers Party, which has in recent months become active in the south-east of Turkey as attacks on military units and police stations have increased.

The Kurdistan Workers Party, shortly known as PKK, is listed as a terrorist group by the UN and the European Union.

The conflict between Turkey and the PKK, which is demanding the creation of an independent Kurdish state, has been continuing for over 25 years and has claimed more than 40,000 lives.
