Iran’s Supreme Leader orders military step-up

10 April 2016 [23:01] - TODAY.AZ

Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has ordered the country's armed forces to step up their military preparedness.

Ayatollah Khamenei, who is the commander-in-chief of Iran, made the remark in a meeting with top military officials, the Leader's official website reported April 10.

He particularly emphasized that spiritual-religious orientation should be preserved as the most salient features of Iran's armed forces, citing the US Army's use of the "professionally criminal Blackwater forces" as an example the damage caused by lack of spirituality in military forces.

The Islamic Republic says that has made great achievements in its defense sector and attained self-sufficiency in producing essential military equipment and systems in recent years.
Iran has manufactured its own tanks, armored personnel carriers, missiles, radars, boats, submarines and fighter planes since 1992. Iran also unveiled its first domestically-manufactured long-range unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) in 2010.
