Member countries of the European Union have supported the visa free travel for the Georgian citizens, Georgia media reported with reference to Georgian reporter in Brussels Giorgy Popkhadze.

However, no further details on the announcement are available.

Earlier, EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini said without elaborating details that “the work is still going on” in the European Commission and the reports on Georgia and Ukraine visa liberation will be out “this month, in the coming days.”

A Schengen visa is required for persons of certain nationalities who wish to visit the Schengen countries. The lifting of visa regime for Georgian citizens will allow staying in the EU for three months during a six month period, while employment in one of the EU countries will be prohibited.

Georgian authorities earlier voiced hope for the introduction of the EU visa-free regime by the end of 2015 - beginning of 2016.

The country completed 7 of 15 major requirements of the second phase of the action plan for liberalization of visa regime with the European Union (VLAP), according to the report of the European Commission as of 8 May 2015.
