The population of Armenia has reportedly decreased by almost 1.6 million for the past 13 years, Armenian media informs.

Armenian people, whose government is not concerned about living standards of its population, are forced to leave the country in search of better life. The data published by the National Statistical Service shows that 1.01 million people left Armenia from 1992 to 2014.

One-third of the Armenian population lives below the poverty line and does not have the ability to make ends meet. Unemployment, monopoly, corruption, and migration are joined by problems such as the increasing prices of basic utilities from year to year, in particular, gas and electricity prices, which makes the already difficult situation hopeless.

People being driven to desperation due to the massive rate of unemployment in the country are only able to organize protests and to appeal to a tone-deaf government that sits too high to hear its citizens.

The landlocked country has faced economic isolation since the closure of its borders with Turkey and Azerbaijan, due to the occupation of Azerbaijan’s Nagorno-Karabakh and seven adjacent regions.

The country’s population is still alive only because of the external money transfers, sent by those who could “run” from this poor country. But now, when Russia, Armenia’s major “benefactor” is facing crisis, the country’s economy is collapsing.
