Visa-free regime with EU to come into force in October - Turkish PM

Visa-free regime with the EU will come into force in October 2016, Prime Minister of Turkey Ahmet Davutoglu said, the Turkish TRT Haber TV channel reported Dec.8.

He said that the full membership in the EU remains a priority for Turkey.

Formal negotiations on Turkey's accession to the EU were resumed in 2005.

The then prime minister, the current president of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that the EU continues to mislead Turkey [on the issue of accession] and this upsets the country.

Earlier, the Minister for EU Affairs Volkan Bozk?r noted that the accession negotiations "cannot continue in the format required by the EU," and stressed that democracy in Turkey is at a higher level than in some European countries.
