The European Union will issue 2 million euros to the Georgian Ministry of Justice to assist in the administrative and private law system development.

The German Society for International Cooperation will be engaged in a two-year project in the framework of the program 'Legal convergence of the South Caucasus with European standards.'

It will aim to develop private and administrative law systems by providing legal advice and institutional capacity building to the Justice Ministry of Georgia, the National Agency of Public Registry and National Bureau of Enforcement.

"After we signed the Association Agreement with the EU and made an important commitment to reconcile our legal system with European laws, it became clear that we need the help of our European partners, our German partners on this issue, since they have experience," the Deputy Justice Minister of Georgia, Alexander Baramidze, said.

Earlier, the European Commission has adopted a new assistance package to Georgia, 100 million euro, to support reforms related to the EU-Georgia Association Agreement and the agreements on mobility.

Currently, nearly a third of Georgia's total trade is with the European Union. Georgia’s location in the South Caucasus makes it an important transit route for energy for Caspian oil and gas.
