Around-the-clock sit-in Armenia began after the rally against the constitutional amendments when people demanded the resignation of the current government.

Late in the night on December 2, the Armenian people poured into the streets to show their disagreement with the constitutional amendments and with the current government that drove its own citizens in such a poor situation. The protesters plan to stay on the Square.

The Armenian National Assembly approved the constitutional amendments without any apparent reason and social requirements after several months of intense debates and political protests against it.

The rally was organized by the Front of National Salvation "New Armenia" and the protesters announced an indefinite sit-in at Freedom Square in Yerevan.

The head of the Unified Command Zhirayr Sefilyan, the leader of the Heritage party Raffi Hovannisyan are on the rostrum together with the leader of the National Self-Determination association Paruyr Hayrikyan, a member of the Heritage party Armen Martirosyan, as well as political leaders, Andreas Ghukasyan and Petros Makeyan.

The protests are taking place in an atmosphere of tension and aggression. Before the rally start, a member of the Constituent parliament Gevorg Safaryan was detained by the police.

Armenian government surpasses every word of the “democracy” that is supposed to be in this poor post-Soviet country. People, being arrested just because of their disagreement with the current government, are forced to be silent and close their eyes on every law violations happening in Armenia.

The leader of the Heritage party, Raffi Hovannisyan, made a statement about that the country's future is being determined here on the Square.

"New Armenia is experiencing 'labor pains', and the Republican Party of Armenia is living its last days. We are dealing with a faceless sunset of uncivil power, which is to be on trial tomorrow,'' he said. “We will stay on the square as long as the government does not leave voluntarily as people demand.”

The protesters announced their unwillingness to leave the Square and said that they will alternate each other. Now, the Freedom Square is full of angry and desperate protesters and aggressive, ready to act police.
