Transit opportunities of Baku Sea Trade Port to be discussed in US

US-Azerbaijan Chamber of Commerce will discuss the regional transit opportunities and the role of the Baku International Sea Trade Port in Eurasia, said the website of the chamber of commerce.

The discussions will be held Dec.10 in Washington D.C. as part of the briefing on “Trans-Caspian east-west trade & transit corridor: role of Baku International Sea Trade Port”, said the message.
The new port complex, the construction of which started in 2007, is located in the Alat township of Baku.

At the initial stage, cargo shipping capacity of the port complex will near 10 million tons of cargo, containers - about 40,000 TEU (twenty-foot equivalent unit), at the second stage – around 17 million tons of cargo, containers - about 150,000 TEU, and at the third stage - up to 25 million tons of cargo, containers - about 1 million TEU.

The first stage of the port’s construction in Alat was completed in June 2014.
