Syrian FM discusses mutual relations with top Iranian officials

Syria’s Foreign Minister Walid al-Moallem discussed bilateral ties and the latest regional developments, specially Syria, with his Iranian counterpart Al-Moallem Mohamamd Javad Zarif, Parliamentary Speaker Ali Larijani, as well as the President Rouhani in Tehran. He arrived on Tuesday IRNA reported August 6.

During the meeting between FMs, they underlined the need for resolving the Syrian crisis through political means.

Iran is Syria government's major ally besides Russia.

Al-Moallem also met with Iran's President Hassan Rouhani. During the meeting Rouhani said that Iran has been supporting oppressed regional people, fighting against terrorism and reinforcing stability.

Rouhani hailed the "Syrian people's resistance against the terrorism", saying that Syrians are oppressed people, have been under terrorists and some superpowers cruelty.

During a meeting with Syrian FM, Iran's Speaker Ali larijani also said, " “Syria has been subject to all-out attacks because it has been in the frontline of resistance against the arrogant and Zionist (Israel) policies in recent years; the Syrian people have conducted difficult battle against the terrorism and extremism in recent years".

Syria has been facing a massive foreign-sponsored militancy for the past four years. According to a UK-based monitoring group, the conflict has reportedly killed an estimated 230,000 people so far.
