‘Security, not business should be key in Iranian nuke deal’

29 July 2015 [16:58] - TODAY.AZ

Security, not business should be a key driving factor of the Iranian nuclear deal, Levente Kozma, former senior foreign policy advisor to three Hungarian prime ministers Peter Medgyessy, Ferenc Gyurcsany and Gordon Bajnai told Trend July 29.

Iran and P5 +1 (the US, UK, France, Russia, China and Germany) reached a historic agreement on Iran’s nuclear program July 14.

The negotiations ended with adoption of a joint comprehensive action plan. If Iran carries out this plan, the economic and financial sanctions earlier imposed on it by the UN Security Council, the US and EU will be lifted.

Iran should get the right to get involved in the international commercial network, according to Kozma.

Iran has the right to nuclear energy, but the agreement should make sure Iran won’t develop nuclear reactors for military purpose, he added.

Iran should give up its goal to erase Israel from the map, and instead of confrontation with Israel, Saudi Arabia and the Gulf countries, it should focus on cooperation, said Kozma.

The former senior adviser said that combating the “Islamic State” is a key and Iran is a major actor in that fight, in which Hungary takes part as well with more than a hundred soldiers.
