Uzbek citizens to be able to vote at presidential election in Baku

Embassy of Uzbekistan in Baku will organize a polling station for voting during the presidential election to be held on March 29, the embassy told Trend.

The polling station will be open from 06 a.m. to 8 p.m. Baku time (GMT/UTC + 04:00 hour) at the Embassy of Uzbekistan, which is located at the address: Baku, Badamdar settlement, the first highway, the ninth lane, 437.

In order ??to participate in the election, only personal presence and a valid passport of a citizen of Uzbekistan are required, according to the embassy. At present, the consular register at the embassy includes about 200 Uzbek citizens eligible to vote. All of them are invited to participate in the election.

In addition, the citizens who are in Azerbaijan on temporal terms (not present in consular register), such as tourists, those on a vacation and so on, will be able to vote in the election.

The presidential election in Uzbekistan will be held on March 29, 2015. The pre-election campaign started on December 26, 2014.

The presidential candidates are: incumbent President Islam Karimov from the Liberal Democratic Party, the member of the parliamentary faction, chairman of the committee for democratic institutions, NGOs and citizens’ self-government bodies, Akmal Saidov - from the National Democratic Party Milly Tiklanish; the chairman of the Central Council of the People’s Democratic Party of Uzbekistan (PDPU) Hotamzhon Ketmonov - from the PDPU, the chairman of the executive committee of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) Adolat, Narimon Umarov - from SDP.

On February 17, Uzbek presidential candidates launched a pre-election campaign.

Currently, some 9,058 precinct election commissions, including 44 ones abroad were established in order to hold election.

More than 340 representatives of local and foreign media will be covering the election in Uzbekistan.

The previous presidential election in Uzbekistan was held in 2007.
