22 intend to be Georgian president

22 presidential candidates were registered in Georgia.

Georgian Central Election Commission said on Monday that the following candidates - the representatives of political parties were registered: Shalva Natelashvili (Labour Party of Georgia), Sergo Dzhavahidze ("For a Fair Georgia"), Giorgi Margvelashvili ("Georgian Dream - Democratic Georgia"), Nino Burjanadze ("Democratic Movement - United Georgia"), David Bakradze ("United National Movement"),Georgi Targamadze (Christian-Democratic Movement), Koba Davitashvili ("Party of the People"), Zurab Kharatishvili ("European Democrats of Georgia"), Teimuraz Zhvania ("Christian-Democratic People's Party"), Akaki Asatiani (Union of Georgian traditionalists).

The candidates nominated by initiative groups were also registered. They are: Mikheil Saluashvili, Nestan Kirtadze, George Liluashvili, Levan Chachua, Avtandil Margiani, Nugzar Avaliani, George Chikhladze Teimuraz Bobokhidze, Nino Chanishvili, Kartlos Garibashvili, Tamaz Bibiluri and Mamuka Chokhonelidze.

In total, 54 applications from those interested in running for president were received by the CEC. Political parties nominated 12 candidates and others were nominated by the initiative groups.

CEC refused to register 29 candidates for president.

Final registration date - September 27. The electoral law allows presidential candidates to withdraw from the elections no later than October 17.

Presidential elections in Georgia will be held on October 27.
