US, France, Britain opt for 'forceful' resolution on Syria

16 September 2013 [16:45] - TODAY.AZ
The foreign ministers of the United States, France and Britain on Monday said they would push for a "forceful" UN resolution to implement a US-Russian accord on dismantling Syria's chemical weapons, dpa reported.

The resolution should employ the "strongest, most forceful terms possible" to ensure compliance by the Syrian regime, US Secretary of State John Kerry said at a press conference with his French and British counterparts.

"If Assad fails to comply with the terms of this framework agreement, make no mistake, we are all agreed - that includes Russia - that there will be consequences," he said.

French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius warned of "serious consequences" if the Syrian regime dodged its commitments.
