Obama sees more work to be done on Syria's chemical disarmament

16 September 2013 [09:00] - TODAY.AZ
US President Barack Obama welcomed a deal reached Saturday on Syria's chemical disarmament, but warned that "much more work" remains, dpa reported.

He said the main goal will be to work with other veto-holding members of the UN Security Council to make sure the process is verifiable and that there are consequences should Syria not cooperate.

"The use of chemical weapons anywhere in the world is an affront to human dignity and a threat to the security of people everywhere. We have a duty to preserve a world free from the fear of chemical weapons for our children. Today marks an important step towards achieving this goal," said the president in a White House statement.
