EU's Ashton says negotiations possible in Syria

27 August 2013 [09:00] - TODAY.AZ
It was important for UN inspectors to reach "clear conclusions" over the reported use of chemical weapons in Syria, EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton said Monday, dpa reported.

Asked during a visit to Estonia whether it was now realistic to expect the Syrian government and rebels to sit down together, Ashton said she thought negotiations would take place.

"In the end, that's what we have to do," she said. "... Any conflict has to end up in a process where people who have often done terrible things have to sit down and work out a way to stop it."
