Electoral Code undergoes amendment in Georgia

25 July 2013 [15:40] - TODAY.AZ
The Georgian parliament has today approved the amendments to the Electoral Code of the country during the first reading. The minority faction supports the amendments that maximally limit the opportunity to use the administrative resources during the election period.

The Georgian parliament's Vice-Speaker Manana Kobakhidze said that according to the amendments, a person participating in the elections must resign before the campaign. As for the voters, they will not be able to vote without the biometric registration.

"This eliminates the possibility of election falsification, when one person had several identity cards and voted at different constituencies," she said. "According to the amendments, in case of overcoming a three-percent barrier, the party will be financed. A candidate participating in the elections will receive 1 million lari to cover the costs in case of getting 10 percent of votes."
