Gays gathered for protest in Istanbul

Members of the LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) community held a gay pride parade calling for respect for the rights of sexual minorities in Istanbul, Hürriyet newspaper on Monday. The marchers also shouted anti-government slogans.

Participants of the gay parade marched from Istanbul's Taksim Square to the cable railway.

Protests have been continuing in Turkey for more than 20 days. According to the authorities, they have an anti-government character. Turkey's opposition parties accuse the police of using excessive force against protesters.

Earlier, Turkish Interior Minister said an investigation is underway in connection with the use of excessive force against protesters.
