Putin says Russia to go ahead on Syria weapon sale

19 June 2013 [11:30] - TODAY.AZ
Russia is supplying weapons to Syria through legal contracts to the legal government, and if such contracts will continue to be signed, then the delivery on them will be maintained, President of Russia Vladimir Putin said at a press conference after the G8 summit, , RIA Novosti reported.

The U.S. and Israel have regularly expressed concern about the supply of Russian S-300 anti-aircraft missile systems to the Syrian government. Russia has repeatedly stated that it supplies to Syria only defensive weapons, without violating the international law.

"Deliveries can be different. We supply weapons through legal contracts to the legal government. This is the government of the President (Bashar) Assad. If will conclude such contracts, then we will maintain the deliveries," Putin said.

However, he urged European partners to weigh once again the risks associated with the possible supply of weapons to the Syrian opposition.
