Rohani keeps top result position - UPDATE

Iran's Interior Ministry has updated the voting count for the presidential elections in the country, Trend's special correspont reported from Tehran.

The latest statistics say so far votes from 14,603 polling stations were counted (out of 58,764 stations).

Totally 8,319,768 votes are already counted, as of 10:30 (Tehran local time).

Thus far Hassan Rouhani continues to lead the race with 4,125,032 votes.

He is followed by Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf (1,341,947), Saeed Jalili (1,056,327), Mohsen Rezaee (902,121), Ali Akbar Velayati (521,097), and Mohammad Gharazi (104,214).

The 11th presidential elections have officially started yesterday in Iran. Over 50 million Iranians were eligible to take part in Friday's polls.

Due to high amount of people willing to leave their votes for the candidates, the time of the elections was extended several times, before the final closure of the polls.

The president of Iran is elected for a four-year term in a national election. The Guardian Council has vetted the candidates for qualifications.

Initial results from Iran's presidential vote show reformist candidate Hassan Rohani in the lead.

Iran's Interior Ministry said that so far 3,024,434 votes from more than 5,876 polling stations have been counted.

Based on the ballots counted, Rohani is leading the race with 1 459,998 votes.

Tehran Mayor Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf comes in next with 487,549 votes of the vote.

Principlist candidate Saeed Jalili is in third place with 383,820 votes.

Independent candidate Mohsen Rezaee and principlist Ali Akbar Velayati come in fourth and fifth place with 13 and 7 percent of the votes, respectively.

Independent candidate Mohammad Gharazi comes in last with two percent of the vote.

Over 50 million Iranians were eligible to take part in Friday's polls.
