10 June 2013 [13:23] - TODAY.AZ
Over 50 million people will be eligible to vote in Iran's upcoming presidential election as well as city and rural council elections, Interior Minister Mostafa Mohammad Najjar said on June 9.

Mohammad Najjar also said that 130,000 polling boxes are set up in 60,000 polling stations in Iran.

He said 285 poling stations are also set up abroad for Iranian expats to vote, Fars news agency reported.

According to the official, more than 1.6 million will be first-time voters.

He further said more than 30 elections have been held in Iran after the revolution, stressing that all of them were fair.

The minister had promised previously that the upcoming presidential election will be a fair election.

No party can influence the election process, Fars quoted Mohammad Najjar as saying.

Iran will hold the 11th presidential election on June 14.

The voters will select the successor of the current President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who is not able to participate in the elections for the third term according to the country's constitutional law.

The president of Iran is elected for a four-year term in a national election. The Guardian Council has vetted the candidates for qualifications.
