Turkish minister rules out Tahreer 'future' for Taksim

The events in Taksim Square will not become the second Tahreer, Minister for EU Affairs of Turkey Egemen Bagis said commenting on the publications of the Western media about the demonstrations in Gezi park, Anadolu news agency reported on Sunday.

"The Western media have made a mistake. They decided that the events in Taksim Square will turn into the events in Tahrir Square, but Taksim will not be a second Tahreer," the minister said.

According to the minister, there are certain forces that are concerned that Turkey is becoming a major force in the world.

The protests against the reconstruction of Gezi park in Taksim Square in Istanbul lasted for ten days.
