Erdogan condemns EU policy towards Turkey

08 June 2013 [09:40] - TODAY.AZ
There is little hope for Turkey to join the EU in connection with the policy pursued by the EU towards Turkey, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said today, TRT Haber TV channel reported.

According to Erdogan, the EU continues a policy of double standards against Turkey. He also added that in fact Turkey is fully ready to join the EU.

"Turkey is not a country that can be kept waiting at the EU door," Erdogan said.

The basis of Turkish-EU relations was established in 1964 by signing an agreement in Ankara. According to the EU statement, the Copenhagen criteria adopted in 2002 are the basis for Turkey's membership in the European Union.

Turkey has undertaken major political and economic reforms since 2002 in line with the Copenhagen criteria. The talks on Turkey's EU membership began in 2005 and continue up to now.
