Erdogan rules out 'spring' for Turkey

There are outside forces interested in destabilizing Turkey, but there will be no "Turkish spring" in the country, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Monday, TV channel TRT Haber broadcasted.

Erdogan said the Republican People's Party (CHP) is behind the events in Taksim Square.

"The opposition forces, which failed to come to power through democratic means, try to do it by destabilizing the country," Erdogan said.

Earlier, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that the causes of the events are ideological in nature, and the opposition intends to increase its influence in Istanbul.

Erdogan also criticized the countries that have called on Turkey to treat the demonstrators more gently.

The rallies are being held in various Turkish towns to support the protesters in the Gezi park on Taksim Square in downtown Istanbul. The protesters oppose the destruction of the park
According to the Turkish media, at present, tensions remain in Gezi Park on Taksim Square.

The protesters, opposing the destruction of the park, are building barricades in the street Istiklal and throwing stones at the policemen. The police continue to use tear gas and water cannons to disperse the demonstrators.

According to the Turkish Interior Ministry, some 58 people were injured and over 730 people were detained.

The 6th Istanbul Administrative Court decided to suspend the construction of the 'Topcu K?slas?' shopping center on Taksim Square.

A group of protesters tried to seize the building of the Turkish ruling party in the Turkish province of Izmit on June 1 morning. The local police dispersed the demonstrators.
