Energy security holds great importance for Georgia :Minister

11 April 2013 [13:56] - TODAY.AZ
Georgia has great potential due to using its existing resources to be an independent energy and electricity exporting country, Georgian Energy Minister Kakha Kaladze said at the presentation of international experts' conclusion on the Hudoni hydroelectric power station construction project on Wednesday.

The experts advised the postponement of the Hudoni hydroelectric power station construction for at least for a year to prepare a full report on the possible consequences of the construction. This station must be able to produce 1300 megawatts of electricity and become the second powerful station in Georgia.

Kaladze suspects the experts were not fully informed and the Energy Ministry is ready to cooperate with them by providing full information on the project to enable them to form an opinion.

"Our approach is to maximally use the country's resources. That is, to build the hydroelectric power stations to turn the country into becoming energy self-regulating," Kaladze said.

He said that energy security is of great importance for Georgia and the ministry will do everything to achieve this goal.
