Most of respondents shows disagreement for president’s election by parliament in Georgia

The majority of respondents in Georgia do not agree with the election of the president by parliament. These are the results of a sociological study conducted by the American International Republican Institute (IRI).

At least 63 per cent of respondents throughout Georgia expressed their disagreement when responding to the question 'Do you support constitutional change which involves the election of the president by parliament?' Eleven per cent said they partly disagreed, nine per cent completely agreed and eight per cent abstained, or said they did not know.

The opinion poll commissioned by IRI was held in Georgia on February 18-27, 2013, interviewed 1500 respondents over the age of 18 and the margin of error equaled 2.5 per cent. The survey was funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID).
