Over the past 30 years, losses from terrorism in Turkey amounted to $400 billion, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Thursday, the Anadolu agency reported.
According to him, if there had not been the problem of terrorism, Turkey could have achieved more success in its development.
"Terrorism impedes the development of some regions of the country. However, Turkey will continue to successfully address the problem in a way that will be eventually removed from the agenda," Erdogan said.
The conflict between Turkey and the PKK, which requires creation of an independent Kurdish state, has lasted for over 25 years and claimed over 40,000 lives. The PKK is recognised as a terrorist organisation by both the UN and the EU.
