Few international organizations to observe Armenian elections

Five international and 12 local organisations, including representatives of foreign diplomatic missions in the country have been registered by the Armenian CEC to monitor the upcoming February 18 election in Armenia, Armenian Report says.

According to the official website of the Central Electoral Commission, among the organisations registered as observers is the International Expert Centre for Electoral Systems, the OSCE, ODIHR, PACE, the Parliamentary Assembly and the CIS observation mission.

Eight candidates are registered for the presidency in Armenia: the incumbent president and ruling Republican Party leader Serzh Sargsyan, former Prime Minister Grant Bagratyan, chairman of the Heritage Party Raffi Hovhannisyan, Paruyr Hayrikyan, Arman Melikyan, Andreas Ghukasyan, Vardan Setrakyan and the leader of the National Accord Party Aram Harutyunyan.
