Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili does not intend to sign the law on amnesty, Speaker David Usupashvili said after a meeting with diplomats today.
"I will comment on the amnesty law tomorrow, because the president still has until 00:00", the chairman of the parliament said. "But yesterday he personally told me that he would not sign the law."
The period in which the president may sign the law expires on Friday. If he does not sign the law, this right passes to the speaker of the parliament.
Usupashvili intends to sign it on January 12 and amnestied people will leave prison from January 13.
