Georgian ex-defense minister returns home

Former Georgian Defense Minister Irakli Okruashvili returned home on Tuesday morning, "Georgian Party", led by Okruashvili, said.

According to the report, at 16:00 today Okruashvili plans to attend the trial, which reviews the case against him. "Okruashvili is ready to be present at the trial and fully understands that despite the today's consideration, he will be behind bars. From there, he intends to prove his innocence in charges brought against him," the report says.

On March 28, 2008 Okruashvili was sentenced to 11 years in prison for abuse of authority and embezzlement of budget funds. After that, he managed to escape to France and get political refugee status there.
