Saakashvili expresses support to families of detained former officials

Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili expressed support for families of arrested senior officials on Thursday. According to the Facebook page of the President, Saakashvili visited the family of Chief of Joint Staff of the Armed Forces of Georgia Giorgi Kalandadze.

Saakashvili expressed his support to the family arrested Kalandadze.

He also contacted by phone with the wives of the former Minister of Defence and Home Affairs Bacho Akhalaia and commander of the fourth battalion of the Ministry of Defense of Georgia Zurab Shamatava.

Kalandadze has a wife and two young children, Bacho Akhalaia has a wife and two young children, Shamatava has a pregnant wife and one baby.

Akhalaya, Kalandadze, Shamatava are formally charged on Thursday. All of the are charged of abuse of power.

However Akhalaia is also accused of a serious crime - force suppression of freedom.
