09 November 2012 [11:16] - TODAY.AZ
Trilateral meeting of Iran, Turkey and Egypt on the Syrian crisis, which was scheduled to be held in Ankara in the coming days, was postponed for unknown period, Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said on Thursday, TRT Haber TV channel reported.

The postponement of the meeting was due to refusal of the Iranian minister from participation in it.
Previously, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan suggested tohold a trilateral meeting on Syria with Turkey, Iran and Egypt.

Turkish Prime Minister appealed to the President of Iran, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad with this proposal during a meeting on the sidelines of the summit of the Organization for Economic Cooperation in Baku.

Following his return to Turkey, Erdogan announced that the meeting on Syria can be carried out in two formats. One of them involves participation of Turkey, Russia, Iran, while the other - participation of Turkey, Egypt and Saudi Arabia.

Anti-government protests have continued in Syria for a year and half.

According to UN, the total number of victims of the conflict in Syria is nearing 30,000.
Over 230,000 have become refugees with around three million in need of humanitarian assistance. The Syrian authorities say they oppose the well-armed militants.
