Giorgi Kalandadze has been appointed as chief of the Joint Staff of Armed Forces by a decree of the Commander in Chief, President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili.
As Georgian presidential administration said, Brigadier General Kalandadze before served as Deputy Chief of the Joint Staff of the Georgian Armed Forces.
Earlier, Lieutenant General Devi Chankotadze was Chief of Joint Staff.
Over the past two days, Saakashvili subordinated several departments to himself, increasing the president's power.
