Ahmadinejad says US-Iran direct talks possible

Direct negotiations between the U.S. and Iran are possible, yet first the conditions should be prepared, Iran's president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said today at a press conference in Tehran, Press TV reported.

The president noted that current situation however is not suitable for launching the direct talks between the two nations.

"The talks should be be held in respectful and fair atmosphere," Ahmadinejad said, adding that Iran will never give up tis nuclear program.

While in New York,Ahmadinejad met with U.S. universities' students and academicians and said that Iran-US relations should be improved.

This move by the president was later criticized by the parliamentary members in Iran.

Further on, Iranian president said what he believes would be the steps to take for normalizing the relations between Iran and the United States.

"If the U.S. start trusting Iran, will not threaten it, will accept the fact that Islamic Republic's nuclear program continues, and will fix the financial issues, then would be a way for stabilizing the bilateral relations," Iran's president noted on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly summit.

At the summit, Ahmadinejad also stressed the need for safeguarding the international security, and criticized the western imposed sanctions against Iran's peaceful nuclear program, considering them obvious violation of the Islamic Republic's rights.
