18 September 2012 [13:31] - TODAY.AZ
Iranian Foreign Military spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast said that Iran has no military presence in Syri.

Mehmanparast was commenting on the recent remarks by Chief Commander of the Iranian Army of the Guardians of the Islamic Revolution (IRGC) Mohammad Ali Jafari, whos words were spread by various media outlets.

ISNA reported on Sunday, quoting Jafari that Jafari confirmed presence of IRGC's elite forces (Quds) in Syria.

He added that some Quds members are in Syria, but it does not mean that Iran have military presence there.

"Arab and Western media outlets have distorted Jafari's words, releasing innacurate statements relating to current issues in the region," Mehmanparast said, adding that it was done for political purposes.

Iranian Foreign Ministry's spokesman underscored that Iran does not have any military presence in the region and particularly in Syria.
