'Georgia has competitive election campaign'

Georgia has competitive election campaign, Deputy Secretary of State Thomas Melia said in Tbilisi on Wednesday evaluating pre-election situation in Georgia.

"Despite some weaknesses in recent months, it is clear that competitive election campaign is holding," he said.

State Department spokesman said that for electoral process should be equal environment for the political players.

"Respect for the peaceful protest and freedom of meeting is a sign of democracy. From all political parties, with whom we met, we heard that they can move around the country, hold election meetings, deliver information to the voters. At the same time, all parties must renounce violence and initially avoid provocations, "- Melia said.
