Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has arrived this morning in the province of East Azerbaijan, hit by the strong earthquake, the IRNA news agency reported.
During the visit, Ahmadinejad will get acquainted with the effects of the disaster and the work to eliminate them. He will visit the villages near the cities of Ahar, Varzaqan and Heris most affected by the earthquake.
The president is accompanied by ministers of Internal Affairs, Agriculture, Culture, as well as the head of the Iranian Red Crescent Society.
On August 11, a 6.2-magnitude earthquake rocked Iran's East Azerbaijan Province, killing more than 300 people and injuring about 2,500.
The epicenter of the earthquake was in the cities of Ahar, Varzaqan and Heris. Some 115 villages were completely or partially destroyed as a result of tremors.
