Foreign investment in Turkey's construction sector in January-June this year increased eight-fold compared to the same period last year, reaching $1.2 billion, Turkey's Economy Ministry said on Thursday. According to the report, $21.5 of every $100 invested by foreign investors fell to the construction sector.
Investing in the real estate leasing sector grew four-fold, reaching $184 million.
Investment in the construction sector in January-June 2011 amounted to $153 million. Foreign investments in real estate leasing sector in the first half of 2011 totalled $49 million.
Most foreign investment this year was made in the construction sector in the provinces of Istanbul, Antalya, Mugla.
During this reporting period, 53 new companies with foreign investment were created in the construction sector of the country. This means the number of foreign companies operating in the construction sector in Turkey has reached 2800.
