27 June 2012 [17:43] - TODAY.AZ
The cooperation of Turkmenistan with the governments of several countries is developing successfully at a bilateral level. An inter-governmental agreement between Turkmenistan and Turkey and an interagency one between Turkmenistan and the Islamic Republic of Iran on cooperation in combating illicit drug trafficking can be a good example of it, Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper said.

It is also noted that the fight against drug trafficking is one of the priorities of the domestic and foreign policy of Turkmenistan. The State Service for Combating Drugs is established in the country and an anti-drug programme is being implemented in 2011-2015 to combat illicit trafficking of drugs, psychotropic substances and precursors and helping people addicted to narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances. Extensive measures are in force to curb smuggling of drugs, the identification and prevention of drug abuse.

Turkmenistan actively cooperates with the UN on a very broad range of issues in this area being an active participant in international conventions on combating illicit trafficking of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, adopted by the UN. In addition, Turkmenistan became a member of the UN Commission on Drugs for 2012-2015.
