Georgia says Clinton's signal to Moscow important

05 June 2012 [18:45] - TODAY.AZ
U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's signal to Moscow is important, Georgian Foreign Minister Grigol Vashadze said after a plenary session held on Tuesday within the U.S.-Georgia Charter on Strategic Partnership.

He stressed the U.S. Secretary of State's statement, in which she called on Russia to fulfill obligations under the ceasefire agreement, and pointed out that she condemns the occupation.

"We know that Clinton has a term "occupation" in the lexicon and she always called on Moscow to fulfill obligations," Vashadze said.

Military actions were launched in the Georgian territory, South Ossetia on Aug.8 in 2008. Later the Russian troops occupied the Tskhinvali city and drove the Georgian military back. Russia recognized the independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia in late
August. In response, Tbilisi broke off diplomatic relations with Moscow and announced two unrecognized republics as the occupied territories.

According to Vashadze, Georgian Prime Minister Nika Gilauri and U.S. Secretary of State discussed economic cooperation and visa regime simplification at the meeting.

As Vashadze said, at present, it is premature to talk about the specific results of Clinton's visit, because there is still a whole working day. He said the parties have prepared some interesting suggestions.
