02 May 2012 [13:49] - TODAY.AZ
Iran's First Vice President Mohammad Reza Rahimi has left Tehran for the Lebanese capital of Beirut on a two-day official visit to hold talks with the senior officials of the country.

Rahimi, heading a politico-economic delegation, is scheduled to meet the Lebanese president, prime minister, parliament speaker and other high-ranking authorities during his visit.

Speaking to reporters ahead of his departure for Beirut on Wednesday, Rahimi said Iran has “very good” relations with all political groups and fronts in Lebanon.

He added that Iran and Lebanon have signed 32 agreements and noted that Beirut enjoys a special position among Arab countries in the region.

Rahimi noted that the Islamic Republic of Iran and Lebanon have amicable relations and good interactions.

“During the occupation of Lebanon by the Israeli regime, Tehran supported Beirut,” he added.

Rahimi will also attend a session of the high council for Iran-Lebanon joint cooperation and exchange views with the Lebanese officials on ways to expand mutual relations and implement agreements which have already been signed between the two countries.

The Iranian vice president is also expected to discuss key regional and international issues with senior Lebanese officials.

Rahimi’s visit is taking place at the invitation of Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati.
