A meeting between Iran's Supreme National Security Council Secretary, chief nuclear negotiator Saeed Jalili and Union foreign policy Chief Catherine Ashton already began in Istanbul, TRT Haber reports live.

According to both official and non-official reports, both sides signaled that they intended to give diplomacy a real chance.

The talks between Iran and the five permanent UN Security Council members plus Germany are being hosted, regarding Iran's nuclear program.

The United States and its European allies suspect Iran of covertly developing atomic weapons, accusations Tehran denies. The Islamic state says it has a sovereign right to nuclear activities, which it says are entirely civilian.
