Leader of Georgia Dream coalition Bidzina Ivanishvili will take advantage of the constitutional amendments and participate in the parliamentary elections, his lawyer Archil Kbilashvili said at a news conference on Friday.
Changes in the law on elections enable participation of EU citizens, which either was born in Georgia or has been living in the country for 10 years.
Kbilashvili, however, stressed that despite this decision, Bidzina Ivanishvili will declare to the Tbilisi City Court on a claim of citizenship.
"We will make a claim, not because we hope for an objective decision, but to identify the fundamental and consistent processes," the lawyer said.
Kbilashvili said though Ivanishvili take advantage of the constitutional amendments, their position in relation to these changes is still negative.
The Civil Registry Agency has denied Ivanishvili Georgian citizenship. It was stated that Ivanishvili may appeal to the Georgian president with a request about dual citizenship. However Ivanishvili isn't going to do so, because he doesn't want to depend on the decision of Mikhail Saakashvili, who had previously deprived his citizenship.
