Iran agrees to talks with ' 5+1'

14 March 2012 [18:29] - TODAY.AZ
Iran has agreed to go forward with negotiations regarding its nuclear program with the 5+1 group, according to the letter sent by National Security Council Secretary Saeed Jalili to European Union Foreign Policy Chief Catherine Ashton, IRNA reported.

The letter was sent to C. Ashton's office on Wednesday, saying that Iran welcomes the political will of the 5+1 group and is ready to concentrate attention on the main purpose of the talks.

Representatives of both sides urge for new round of talks, underlining that place and time for the talks will be decided soon.

Two rounds of multifaceted talks were held in Geneva, Switzerland in December 2010 and in Istanbul, Turkey in January 2011.

The US, Israel and some of their allies accuse Tehran of pursuing military objectives in its nuclear energy program.

Iran has refuted the allegations, arguing that as a signatory to the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and a member of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Tehran is entitled to peaceful use of nuclear technology.
