The Georgian parliament has approved an amendment today to the Basic Law on Military Service, which envisages increasing the service term in the army by three months.
MPs agreed with initiators of the amendment that one year is not sufficient for training recruits.
Starting with the spring draft in 2012, compulsory military service will be extended from 12 to 15 months. Under the bill, extended compulsory military service will not be applied to men conscripted before the amendment.
