Iran urges OIC meeting on Israeli bill

05 January 2012 [13:57] - TODAY.AZ
Iran has called for an emergency meeting of the al-Quds committee of the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to address a recent Israeli bill that declares al-Quds (Jerusalem) as the regime's capital.

Iran's Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi called for the meeting in a message to OIC Secretary General Ekmeleddin Ihsanoghlu on Wednesday.

A recent bill passed by the Israeli regime's legislative body, Knesset, declared al-Quds as “the united capital of the Jewish people as well as Israel.”

Salehi described the move as a serious infringement of the Palestinian nation's indispensible rights and a blatant violation of international law.  He criticized the international community's silence and the “unacceptable” inaction of the hegemonic powers.

Iran's top diplomat also praised and voiced support for the organization's recent statement in condemnation of the bill.  Salehi said that the OIC' appropriate stance in supporting the Palestinian nation's rights and condemning Israel's crimes has met the demands of the OIC members.

Iran's Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast also condemned the move and reiterated that the measure is aimed at “total Judaization of Islamic sanctities,” which also exposed the “racist nature of the Zionist regime” in insulting divine religions and their sanctuaries.
