Iran plans large-scale military exercises

Iran plans to hold major naval exercises from Dec. 24 to Jan. 3 on the area from the South of Iran and up to the Northern part of Indian Ocean, Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari said, IRNA reported.

"For the first time this year, naval exercises will take place in the Strait of Hormuz, the Oman Sea, and oriented towards the north of Gulf of Aden," Sayyari noted. "Total radius of the maneuvers will reach some 2,000 kilometers."

The war maneuvers, dubbed "Velayat 90", differs from previous ones in terms of the vastness of the area of action and military equipment and tactics that would be employed in maneuvers, Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari said.

Sayyari added that these naval military maneuvers are being organized due to everyday sea threats, for sea security and fighting terrorism and pirates, and for testing Iran's naval technology. ranian drones will also be used during the exercises, Sayyari added.
