Iraq seeks to develop relations with Azerbaijan

Iraq is interested in development of relations with Azerbaijan, visiting Iraq`s minister of municipalities and public works Adil Muheydar Razi Al-Maliki said in the meeting with first vice speaker of Azerbaijan`s Parliament Ziyafat Asgarov.

Speaking about the history of the Azerbaijan-Iraq relations, Asgarov pointed out these ties have entered a new stage after Azerbaijan`s regaining its independence. Asgarov stressed Azerbaijan is interested in expansion of cooperation with Iraq. He informed the Iraqi Minister on Azerbaijan`s socio-economic progress, development of democratic institutions in the country as well as Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

For his part, Adil Muheydar underlined Iraq`s supporting Azerbaijan`s position in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. He said the aim of the visit is to hold consultations on development of cooperation. Muheydar expressed hope the visit of the Iraqi Foreign Minister and a group of MPs to Azerbaijan in the near future will mark a new chapter in history of bilateral relations.
