French President Nicholas Sarkozy officially welcomed to Azerbaijan - PHOTOS - UPDATE

President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan and President Nicholas Sarkozy of France, as well as the First Lady of Azerbaijan Mehriban Aliyeva yesterday took part at the groundbreaking ceremony on French Lyceum in Baku.

Participants of ceremony cheered the heads of state.

Prior to ceremony, the “Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of the Republic of France on foundation of the French Lyceum” was signed. The document was signed by the foreign minister of Azerbaijan Elmar Mammadyarov and the minister for development cooperation of France Henri de Renkur.

The Presidents addressed the ceremony participants. Then, the heads of state viewed the stand with scheme of construction of future lyceum. President Aliyev and President Sarkozy put the time capsule into the foundation. The Heads of State and Azerbaijan`s First Lady covered it with liquid concrete. Then, President Sarkozy viewed the “Baku-White City” project model.

Presidents Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan and Nicholas Sarkozy of France have today had a joint working luncheon after a one-on-one meeting.

Presidents Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan and Nicholas Sarkozy of France met in private on Friday.

Successful development of bilateral ties in a variety of fields, including policy and economy was stressed at the meeting.

The parties expressed assurance Azerbaijan-France relations would continue to develop successfully. The importance of French President`s official visit to Azerbaijan for developing the relationship between the two countries was highlighted during the meeting.

The Heads of States shared their opinions on the regional and international issues.

President of France also met  with Azerbaijan`s first lady Mrs. Mehriban Aliyeva.

President of France Nicholas Sarkozy has today been given an official welcome to Azerbaijan.
A guard of honor was lined up for the French President at the square decorated with the national flags of the two countries.

President Nicholas Sarkozy was welcomed by President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev. The Heads of State inspected a ceremonial Guard of Honor as an orchestra played the national anthems of France and Azerbaijan.

Azerbaijani state and government officials were introduced to President Nicholas Sarkozy, while members of the French delegation to President Ilham Aliyev. The presidents posed for photographs.
