Some newspapers have chosen lie and slander as a means of political struggle in Azerbaijan, the Press Council deputy board member, "Azerbaijan" newspaper editor-in-chief, MP Bakhtiyar Sadihov said.
He said that newspapers' activity reduced public confidence in the press.
"Unfortunately, the trust in the press greatly reduced in Azerbaijan," he said. "One of the reasons is racket journalism and racket newspapers. These newspapers spread false information for the sake of their private and corporate interests to make people take some actions and get their desired results. They spread slander against these people and do it systematically."
Azerbaijan is a small country. One can say that everyone knows each other, MP said. Sadihov also touched on the activity of several opposition newspapers.
"There are some opposition newspapers," he said. They systematically write biased reports on state officials."
