Azerbaijani parliament vice speaker: Confederations became history

07 September 2011 [10:46] - TODAY.AZ
“Confederations became history. The world processes are going on in such direction that the countries can be united in different organizations”, vice speaker of the Azerbaijani parliament Bahar Muradova told the website of the New Azerbaijan Party (YAP) making comment on proposals for Turkish-Azerbaijani Confederation.

Muradova noted that the countries are cooperating within certain organizations and the European Union can be an example for that. She said today the world countries are not interested in establishing confederation. “Azerbaijan is an independent country and this year will celebrate 20th anniversary of restoration of its independence”.

Muradova said there was no need to seek novelties in the Azerbaijani-Turkish relations. “Turkey also has no such initiative. I don’t see it. The discussions can be accepted only as the discussions of ideas. I don’t think that this issue has a real background. Azerbaijan and Turkey are strategic allies and friendly countries. We have many common interests and targets and we take proper positions in our activity toward this. It wouldn’t be correct to propose such idea and then to sound different ideas about that. If one day idea of establishing organization like EU comes to agenda and if Azerbaijan and Turkey fin this proposal interesting, we can consider this issue. Currently we don’t need to return to the form of state, which was rejected by other countries”.
